Prices of several tea varieties declined at Kochi auctions following subdued demand from exporters and upcountry buyers.
CTC dust market opened barely steady to ₹2-3 lower in sale no. 22 and the quantity on offer was 10,85,500 kg. As the sale progressed, good liquoring teas were steady and firm and sometimes dearer. Others were irregular and lower, witnessing some withdrawal. Some regional blenders and Kerala State Civil Supplies were active on good liquoring varieties, the auctioneers Forbes, Ewart & Figgis said.
There was a fair demand for orthodox grades and the quantity on offer was 14,500 kg. Primary grades remained steady.
In leaf category, the market for good liquoring Nilgiri brokens, whole leaf across the board in orthodox grades sold around last levels. The quantity on offer was 2,13,000 kg.
In CTC leaf, the market for good liquoring teas barely remained steady and others were lower by ₹3 to ₹5.
In dust grades, both Carady Goody PD and Waterfall SFD quoted the best prices at ₹145, while Chamraj FOP came to the top in leaf grades quoting ₹278.
